Public directory does not contain CSS and JS folder after running npm and bootstrap for laravel

I am trying to load bootstrap into my laravel project, I downloaded the UI package using composer require laravel/ui I also used php artisan ui bootstrap to load bootstrap on the project. Then i did npm install ; npm run dev. After all of this process was completed, I checked the public directory but I can't find the CSS and JS folder there. Please how do i go about this?
