Can I use .pem for some apps and .p8 for others?

I'm currently in the process of releasing a new iOS application to the App Store and it requires push notifications.

Apple have recently (in the scheme of things) released api keys. I have some apps that are using the old .p12 -> .pem files for sending notifications but I want to use the new .p8 format.

Will I disable/invalidate all other cert/keys when I generate a new .p8 key?

My concern is that creating a .p8 key could stop previous apps from being able to send push notifications.

Thanks
