SSH problem with new laptop. 2 Macs, same user name. Keys issue? Thought could copy same keys from home laptop to remote. Nope. Not working

Setting up SSH remote access with a new laptop.

Thought this would be easy. Seems a bit more complex. Laptop A is home. Has been working great for remote SSH access to my site on DigitalOcean (Ubuntu).

Setting up new laptop, on the road now, same user name, both machines. Copy existing public and private keys to gmail. Download (on the road), copy to new Mac. Asks to add to know_host file. Say "Yes", and there it is.

Can look at existing Public Key for the same user, Same on Home laptop, same on remote laptop, and on DigitalOcean. Private Key same on Home and Remote computer. [id_rsa, id_rsa.pub] Looked simple, yet get the: Permission denied (publickey) - message trying to sign on.

Everything is identical everywhere. So that's the confusion.

Next steps to try, tips most appreciated. Thanks

Ok, reinstalled everything from scratch. Yes, you can copy keys (private and public from different laptops) seems they are not really locked to any particular box you have. Ok, on the road. Working! :-)
