Maven compile is failing with no much info from stack trace - spring boot app

Question

I'm trying to run mvn clean install -DskipTests=true on a spring boot project but it is failing for me with the following statement:

I did not get much help from the stack trace so I started searching and ended up in the following page

Post inserting this ${env.JAVA_11_HOME}/bin/javac tag in my local the application is able to build. But my doubt is why this issue is happening for my laptop whereas the same code base works fine for my colleagues without this executable tag. Can anyone help understand why so and how I can rectify it as other codebases doesn't need this in maven-compiler-plugin.

P.S:

I'm running the maven commands using console no IDE.
I've tried with Oracle & Redhat Open JDK V 11.0.5.
Maven versions: 3.8.5 also tried with 3.8.1. Installed like mentioned here: https://phoenixnap.com/kb/install-maven-windows
Have also tried building with intellij idea maven plugin - no luck still same error without the executable tag.
