3 level type object does not return expected results

i am working with apollo graphql and i have a query with 3 nested type objects. as shown below

query{CyberStrategyMaturity{
  maturityItemDisplay {
    items {
      org_id
    }
  }
}}

result_of_3_layer_query

although the above does not result in an error its not what i expect to see.

when i have it nested at 2 layers, then the correct results comeback.

query {CyberStrategyMaturityItemDisplay {
  items {
    org_id
  }
}}

correct_results

so the problem is it returns one set of the data with 3 layers but with 2 it returns all.

1. why is that?
2. how can i resolve this?

i have to use the 3 layers for the overall query that i am working on.
