What'd be the behaviour, multiple kafka topics 40 partitions each and single consumer group(same group id) with 40 containers consuming all topics?

Will there be equal distribution for all topics(X number of topics) having 40 partitions each? will they(partitions) get mapped to all 40 containers of the same(single) consumer group with 40 containers consuming from all topics?

Example: to understand the problem in more detail:: will the behaviour same for consumption of data in below two cases:

1. 2 topics with 40 partitions and 2 different consumer groups(with 40 containers each) consuming data, one from topic 1 and other from topic 2
2. 2 topics with 40 partitions, single consumer group(with 40 partitions) consuming data from both the topics.
