Get Refresh Token using App Client ID and Client Secrets for Googel Analytics in Python

Viewed 209

I am trying to set up a connection to pull data for Google Analytics. I created an app and got client_id and client_secret, however finding difficulty in getting the refresh token. I am using Python and the below link doesn't seem to work for me with the change of scope to SCOPE = u'https://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.readonly'

https://github.com/googleads/googleads-python-lib/blob/master/examples/adwords/authentication/generate_refresh_token.py

Has anyone figured out how to get it done using Python?

Im not sure why you are following a sample for working with adwords when you want to work with Google analytics.

I recommend having a look at the Google analytics python quickstart The library itself will handle refreshing the access token for you.

"""Hello Analytics Reporting API V4."""

from apiclient.discovery import build
import httplib2
from oauth2client import client
from oauth2client import file
from oauth2client import tools

def initialize_analyticsreporting():
  """Initializes the analyticsreporting service object.

    analytics an authorized analyticsreporting service object.

  # Parse command-line arguments.
  parser = argparse.ArgumentParser(
      formatter_class=argparse.RawDescriptionHelpFormatter,
      parents=[tools.argparser])

  flow = client.flow_from_clientsecrets(
      CLIENT_SECRETS_PATH, scope=SCOPES,

  # Prepare credentials, and authorize HTTP object with them.

  # flow. The Storage object will ensure that if successful the good
  # credentials will get written back to a file.

  if credentials is None or credentials.invalid:
    credentials = tools.run_flow(flow, storage, flags)
