I am getting a strange and persistent error when cloning qt from https://invent.kde.org/qt/qt/qt5.git:

As you can see I get
fatal: cannot create directory at tests/auto/corelib/io/qdir/testdir/dir.lnk/subdir': File exists
for qtbase, and the process eventually fails.
I tried deleting the files and running again, but it is init-repository that creates the file and then complains about it.
The path also contains an empty aaaaa.txt file, and subdir.lnk contains an empty subdir.lnk.txt so it certainly doesn't look right.
I get the same error cloning just qtbase.
Any ideas what is going on?
Update: I was able to clone with linux, so it appears the issue might be related to doing it in windows via msys.
