one part of heapsort changed and doesn't work

Viewed 33

I have completed the code for heapsort which works very good. But when I changed the part in the function heapify()

int largest = left + 1 < size && arr[left + 1] > arr[left] ? left + 1 : left;
            largest = arr[largest] > arr[index] ? largest : index;

to

 int largest = (left + 1) < size && arr[left +1 ] < arr[left] ? left : (left + 1);
            largest = arr[largest] > arr[index]? largest : index;

then the code doesn't work. I figure the two parts are same. I have no idea what is just the problem. I have checked it many times.

            heapInsert(arr, i);
        }
        int size = arr.length;
        swap(arr, 0, --size);
        while (size > 0) {
            heapify(arr, 0, size);
            swap(arr, 0, --size);
        }
    }

        while (arr[index] > arr[(index - 1) / 2]) {

int largest = left + 1 < size && arr[left + 1] > arr[left] ? left + 1 : left;
            largest = arr[largest] > arr[index] ? largest : index;

and

 int largest = (left + 1) < size && arr[left +1 ] < arr[left] ? left : (left + 1);
            largest = arr[largest] > arr[index]? largest : index;

are not equal. Imagine arr[left + 1] is 1 and arr[left] is also 1. In the first case largest would be left in the second case largest would be (left + 1). This leads to your indexes being off.

Disclaimer: I did not test this with the code. Just pointing out that you changed the behaviour for the "equals" case
