How to use SpringBootTest with web security and Service usnig Junit5 and Mockito?

Developing a Spring web app, I just implemented Spring Security for the very first time and for simplicity I am using for now a single user with the right to access certain parts of the site. It works all fine but I can not for my life figure out how I test this with Junit5/Mockito. The security config file looks as follows;

@Configuration
@EnableWebSecurity
public class AppSecurityConfig extends WebSecurityConfigurerAdapter {

    private final UserService userService;

    @Autowired
    public AppSecurityConfig(UserService userService) {
        this.userService = userService;
    }

    @Override
    protected void configure(HttpSecurity http) throws Exception {
        http
                .authorizeRequests()
                .antMatchers("/", "/home", "/css/*", "/js/*", "/images/*", "/site/*")
                .permitAll()
                .anyRequest().authenticated()
                .and()
                .formLogin();
    }

    @Override
    protected UserDetailsService userDetailsService() {
        UserDetails user = userService.loadUserByUsername("admin");
        return new InMemoryUserDetailsManager(user);
    }
}

The userService is an interface with one single method;

public interface UserService {

    UserDetails loadUserByUsername(String s);
}

And the implementation class of that is;

@Service
public class UserServiceImpl implements UserDetailsService, UserService {

    private final UserRepository userRepository;

    public UserServiceImpl(UserRepository userRepository) {
        this.userRepository = userRepository;
    }

    @Override
    public UserDetails loadUserByUsername(String s) throws UsernameNotFoundException {
        User user = userRepository.findByUsername(s);
        if(user == null) {
            throw new UsernameNotFoundException(s);
        }
        return new UserDetailsWrapper(user);
    }
}

I am simply trying to run this up with a simple integration test which is mocking the UserService and its loadUserByUsername() method;

@SpringBootTest
class SiteApplicationTests {

    @Mock
    private UserService userService;

    @BeforeEach
    void setUp() {
    }

    @Test
    void contextLoads() {
        // "testpassword"
        String hashedPassword = "$2y$12$LoUoUX4t54/gDGDNvNf6w.hBhpVffPdoI3lZG0P0bVvEnBRVCsw5i";

        UserDetails user = User.builder()
                .username("admin")
                .password(hashedPassword)
                .build();

        when(userService.loadUserByUsername(any(String.class))).thenReturn(user);
    }
}

But that fails with the following error;

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Failed to load ApplicationContext

It is clear to me that that Spring can not find the user because the underlaying database is not there and is also what it says in the trace. I am also guessing here, being new to Spring and all, that maybe the test method is loaded after application context while the configuration is not and thus can not be mocked the way I am clearly failing to do. But I can not find any reference to how one mocks the actual configuration of Spring Security in this specific context. Please help!

The problem is you should use @MockBean annotation to create mock bean for UserService and inject it into application context, @Mock annotation is used to unit testing and not for spring boot integration testing

@SpringBootTest
class SiteApplicationTests {

   @MockBean
   private UserService userService;

   @BeforeEach
   void setUp() {
   }

   @Test
   void contextLoads() {
    // "testpassword"
    String hashedPassword = "$2y$12$LoUoUX4t54/gDGDNvNf6w.hBhpVffPdoI3lZG0P0bVvEnBRVCsw5i";

    UserDetails user = User.builder()
            .username("admin")
            .password(hashedPassword)
            .build();

    when(userService.loadUserByUsername(any(String.class))).thenReturn(user);
    }
}

@Deadpool I thank you so much! Yes, I understand now. What I also figured out is that I don't need to override the loadUserByUsername method at all since I only have a single UserDetailService which by being a component is already known to Spring and put automatically into the context. Spring magic!
