Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token '<' React nginx error

I am trying to run nginx on a virtual machine server that i have purchased to run my website that i am creating. I am fairly new to webservers and setting them up in general but i seem to have got the nginx config to at least direct to the proper index file. But for some reason i am getting the error above. I think its because its expecting js and getting html or vice versa. Below is all my code:

Index.html in ./EqualityTee/front-end/public/index.html

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <title>Trend.com</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <div id="root"></div>
    <script  src="./bundle.js"></script>
  </body>
</html>

index.js in ./EqualityTee/front-end/src/index.js

import React from "react";
import ReactDOM from "react-dom";
import App from "./App";
import { Auth0Provider } from "./react-auth0-spa.js";
import config from "./utils/auth_config.json";
import history from "./utils/history.js";

// A function that routes the user to the right place
// after login
const onRedirectCallback = appState => {
  history.push(
    appState && appState.targetUrl
      ? appState.targetUrl
      : window.location.pathname
  );
};

ReactDOM.render(
  <Auth0Provider
    domain={config.domain}
    client_id={config.clientId}
    redirect_uri={window.location.origin}
    onRedirectCallback={onRedirectCallback}
  >
    <App />
  </Auth0Provider>,
  document.getElementById("root")
);

nginx config file

When i run a local server using my website the bundle.js is pointed at the location https://localhost:8080/bundle.js so i think i have it pointing to the right location, but what am i missing here?
