Is there a :tabnew for multiple files?

Edit: This question has answers on vi.SE: How can I open multiple tabs at once?

The :tabnew command can open a file in a new tab in vim. However, it cannot handle multiple filenames:

:tabnew file1.h file2.h

results in

E77: Too many file names

Perplexingly, it actually seems to do shell expansion, so :tabnew *.h will expand to all files with the ending .h in the current directory. But then the command only succeeds if this matches exactly one file.

Is there a way to have the same functionality but open all matching files in a separate tab? Either make :tabnew capable of it or have a different command, e.g. :multitabnew that does this.
