Convert and use DataTable in WPF DataGrid?

In normal WinForm application you can do that:

DataTable dataTable = new DataTable();
dataTable = dataGridRecords.DataSource;

but how to do that with the WPF datagrid?

dataTable = dataGridRecords.ItemsSource;

won't work either.
