how can I get elevation data of an area from google earth

I need the elevation data of an area for some communication network simulation, and I want to extract the data from google earth. especially I need to get the height of the buildings for that simulation, so I need it with high resolution. Is there any way I can access the google earth database to get and store this information? It is preferred if I can access them for free.
