Is ASP.NET good to start as web developer?

I learned C# for almost 5 years. Now I want to dedicate myself to web development. Is ASP.net suitable for starting this path?

P.S: I don't know anything about HTML or CSS. Should I learn about those subjects before diving into Web development?
