I was able to add Azure Communication Services to my company's government cloud subscription, and the new Email service appears as an option.
When I click the button for that service, "Connect your email domains," there are a couple of paths to take. Clicking the "Haven’t provisioned any domains? Let’s get started" link takes me to an error page (wait for it). Clicking the "Connect domain" button gives me a sidebar instructing me to "Add an email service" before I can proceed. Clicking the link to add an email service takes me to this error page (same error page as the "Haven't provisioned any domains?..." link on the previous page).
Error reason: "ErrorLoadingExtensionAndDefinition"
Details: "Error: The extension name 'Microsoft_Azure_EmailCommunicationServices' is not valid"
Email, from what I've read, is the newest mode added to Communication Services, and is currently in public-preview status. I'm wondering if this is just not available in the Government Cloud yet, but instead of hiding/disabling the elements to add the service, they just sloppily lead to a confusing dead end. If it is available in the Govt Cloud, there seems to be a bug, because the extension name in the error details was hardcoded when trying to add the service, i.e., there's no obvious user input that I could have screwed up (in which case I guess we'll have to get a paid support plan just to report this bug to them??)
Has anybody else tried to set this up on the Government Cloud who could share their experience?
