How is better to understand how a GPU works?

I need to understand more about what is happening in GPU like NVIDIA. What challenges GPU manufacturers come across and how do they accelerate graphics. Is there any resource that I can use to understand the architecture better and get familiar to the terms related to GPU? I was watching GTC session last day and I thought that I need to understand more about the terms in this area.
