MatLab. How can I write a function that returns the orientation of an object in an image in degrees (,30, 45, 22 etc)

Imagine we have a file that has the picture of a pencil. How can I write a Matlab function that returns the angle of that pencil? (like 45 degrees, 180 degrees etc)
