Xterm's font rendering, unlike your usual custom GPU font renderer, seems to somehow adjust for macOS's font dilation defaults. I couldn't find out how this is achieved by glancing over the code, so I thought I'd ask here.
Terminals like Alacritty defer to the native font renderer to adjust for platform preferences regarding font rendering. This, AFAIK, isn't possible via WebGL. Or am I missing something here?
It definitely works in Xterm, though. So I'm really curious as to how this is achieved.
Other people, like Patrick Walton with Pathfinder (written in Rust), have attempted (and more or less succeeded) in approximating the font dilation formula used in macOS. Is this what's happening here, too?
Edit: does it just mix WebGL context rendering and Canvas2D rendering and get the font dilation / stem darkening for free this way?
