In Kotlin, you cannot assign Nullable types to Non-Nullable, getStringExtra returns String? which is not compatible with String

Try below

private val name : String? by lazy {
    intent.getStringExtra(UID)
}

or

private val name : String by lazy {
    intent.getStringExtra(UID)?:""
}
